Wayte, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., lived in Jackson County, North Carolina from 1954 until her death in 1996. She was active in academic, civic and social organizations throughout her career. In 1996 Wayte was inducted into the Association for the Advancement of International Education's Hall of Fame.
