Christie Fulcher is coordinator of the Digital Heritage Project. She earned her B.A. from Mills College in Oakland, CA and her M.A. from Western Carolina University. She previously served as director of the Mammoth Museum in Mammoth Lakes, CA.
Michele Glover is Mountain Heritage Day Coordinator. She holds a M.A. in American History from Western Carolina University. Michele teaches history at Southwestern Community College.
Peter Koch is education associate. He holds an M.A. in public history from North Carolina State University and is the Student Affairs Committee co-chair for the North Carolina Museums Council. Sona Norton is the office manager for the Center. Besides office management, she orients visitors to the Center and on campus. She is a 1986 WCU University Scholar graduate and has lived in the area since 1979. She is a distant great niece of William C. Norton, one of the "Noble Nine" original founders of the university. Traveling as a military family member, Sona lived in England for many years and graduated from high school at R.A.F. Lakenheath, England.
Scott Philyaw is director. He received his B.A. from WCU, his M.A. from the College of William and Mary, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. He is recipent of the UNC Board of Governors' Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Paul A. Reid Distinguished Service Award, the College of Arts & Sciences Award for Excellence in Teaching, and served as Scholar in Residence of the 2003 Summer Institute of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. He is a specialist in the colonial and revolutionary periods and also has strong interests in the American West and public history.
Curtis W. Wood is Professor Emeritus of History, recently retired from Western Carolina University where he taught British and Appalachian history. He has written about the Scotch-Irish migration and various topics in Appalachian history, with special reference to the history of western North Carolina. For many years he was Senior Research Associate at the Mountain Heritage Center and is currently working there again on special projects. He is also directing a community group in the writing of a bicentennial history of Haywood County.
