Principal Licensure:

Master of School Administration (M.S.A.): The Master of School Administration (M.S.A.) degree prepares educators for North Carolina Certification: Administrator 1, Principal. Most courses are offered online and on the Cullowhee campus and in Asheville.

“Add-on” Licensure in School Administration for Principalship: Another option for those with a master’s in an education-related field, a current teaching license, and three years of P-12 teaching experience is the “add-on” licensure in School Administration for Principalship.

Education Specialist in Educational Leadership (Ed.S.): If you already have a Master’s in School Administration or another education-related field, the Education Specialist in Educational Leadership (Ed.S.) degree leads to advanced licensure in education administration (superintendent licensure).

Educational Supervision Certification: With your current master’s in education degree (M.A.Ed.), you can choose among three 38-hour advanced certification options in educational supervision.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.): If you’re a senior-level administrator ready for new challenges, the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership prepares you to lead rural communities for service in Pre-K-through-12 school systems, community colleges, and four-year institutions of higher education.
