Rocks, minerals of WNC to be explored in March 16 Heritage Center program
3/10/2008 - The rocks and minerals of Western North Carolina will be explored during a “Nature’s Tracks” program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Center.

Phil Potter, curator and educator at the Colburn Earth Science Museum in Asheville, will lead the program, which is designed for families with elementary school-aged children.

Hands-on examination will allow participants to learn how to identify common rocks and minerals of the region, and how igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are formed.

The Mountain Heritage Center is located on the ground floor of WCU’s H.F. Robinson Administration Building. The program is free, but reservations are required.

For more information or to make reservations, contact the Mountain Heritage Center at (828) 227-7129.
