NC TEACH II
In September 2006, NC TEACH was awarded a five-year Transition to Teaching grant by the US Department of Education in an effort to expand the current program to focus on recruiting and preparing quality teachers in high-need licensure areas for high-need school districts in NC. Western Carolina University is one of four North Carolina universities participating in this program. Math, science, and special education are the priority subject areas for this project, however, if high-need school districts have different subject needs which they consider high-need, then these subject areas may be an option for participants.
If you are a lateral entry teacher in your first year of teaching, you may be eligible to receive a stipend of $1000 and a $2000 computer allowance. In return you will agree to teach a minimum of three years in an identified high-need school system. If you are unable to fulfill the commitment, you will be required to repay the stipend and technology allowance.
We only have room for 25 NC TEACH II participants each year, submit the required forms today:
