Kathryn Allen is a Research Assistant at the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines (PSDS) at Western Carolina University (WCU). She began working with PSDS in April of 2016 while still a student at WCU, from where she is now a recent graduate having received a BS degree in Geology. Her primary role at PSDS involves working with Andy Coburn on the Beach Nourishment project and viewer, helping build a database which represents, to the best of our knowledge, the most comprehensive compilation of beach nourishment history in the United States. Kathryn’s work with the project specifically involves utilizing research and GIS skills to enhance the geospatial dimension of the database by mapping the physical boundaries of each episode with ArcGIS. Kathryn also occasionally assists Blair Tormey in projects using Ground Penetrating Radar, among her other duties at PSDS.
